Formed in January of 2015, Write Minded is a Colorado-based live hip-hop band consisting of fresh grooves and thought-provoking lyrics. This group will get you out of your seat and dancing with influences of hip-hop, reggae, funk and rock.
Write Minded was born when Sam Mouton and Jesse Neth began writing and creating hip-hop music in high school. Branching off from Def Rhymes Divine, a local hip-hop collective, the group focuses on acoustic hip-hop music with Mouton on guitar and vocals and Neth on vocals. Percussionist Jonah Greene adds a rhythm section with djembe, bongos and hand percussion. Jarod Ford and Forrester Tamkun offer the influence of psychedelic riffs from their experience producing funkedelic rock music. Wilson Slaughter creates tasty key licks and chord progressions that ensnare the mind, elements that are a huge part of the band's current sound.
Only weeks after their formation, the group shared the stage with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe at The Aggie and were invited to participate in the Colorado Showcase at South by Southwest, playing a set at the 512 in downtown Austin, Texas. This propelled the band forward to play on the main stage at Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest later in the summer and the Fort Collins Music Experiment (FoCoMX) a few months later.
The band recorded a four-song demo and is currently in the process of mixing and mastering a full-length album to be recorded at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins. The album is planned for release during the summer of 2016, with a tour to follow. The band has also worked with local cinematographer Hudson Bloom to create a music video for Perfect Day, a single off the album.
